Images of Autumn in Maine ~ Part I

The autumn color in Maine is starting to change over to mostly browns and oranges, but at the request of Marsi at The Cottage Cheese, I'm sharing a small gallery of photos I took at my local Audubon Center on October 23rd. Color was still at peak then so there were plenty of brilliant reds and yellows.

Leaves
by Elsie N. Brady

How silently they tumble down
And come to rest upon the ground
To lay a carpet, rich and rare,
Beneath the trees without a care,
Content to sleep, their work well done,
Colors gleaming in the sun.

At other times, they wildly fly
Until they nearly reach the sky.
Twisting, turning through the air
Till all the trees stand stark and bare.
Exhausted, drop to earth below
To wait, like children, for the snow.

Stop back Wednesday for more photos of autumn in Maine. Also if you haven't checked out The Cottage Cheese on Etsy, you should!

It's Pumpkin Time ~ Happy Halloween!

Shadows of a thousand years
Rise again unseen,
Voices whisper in the trees,
"Tonight is Halloween!"

Awhile ago, I discovered photographer Jessica Rogers and her collection, Photo of the Week. I began participating, and now I'm hooked! It's such a great motivator to get me out there capturing new shots each week. In case you haven't been following along, I'll post my pictures here. But please do check out Jessica's blog. Maybe you'd like to join us. Jessica typically updates the Photo of the Week gallery at the end of the week. Thanks, Jessica!!

Happiness depends... ~ October 1st

Happiness depends, as Nature shows,
Less on exterior things than most suppose.
