Party like a Mad Man (or Woman)

I’ve been thinking a lot about the TV series Mad Men after having viewed it on DVD. And I know that for you lucky folks with cable, Season Three is starting up again tomorrow.

Today I was browsing Etsy.com after having purchased 2 vintage cocktail glasses this morning for my own soon-to-launch Etsy shop. I wanted to see if there were any similar items on Etsy, so I searched on the word cocktail. That’s how I came up with my brilliant idea: a Mad Man Cocktail Party! Doesn’t it sound like fun? You and your guests can dress up in your 50s and 60s attire, sip martinis out of vintage cocktail glasses, and munch on hor d'oeuvres. I think it would be a blast!

First, you must send out the invitations! So many to choose from, like these wine and cheese ones, these retro invites, or these, or even these.

Of course, you must have your martini set. There are so many to choose from. Maybe this one is more your style. Or how about this numerology shaker.

Not sure how to shake them? A drink recipe book will help. And a cocktail tray with pink elephants makes it so much easier to serve up the martinis.

Don't forget the swizzle sticks and coasters. And truly, mermaid cocktail glass charms are de rigeur.

Cocktail napkins will come in handy when someone gets sloshed and then sloshes their drink.

If the spill is really bad, you might need to grab a towel.

I’ll be there in my party dress and heels.

Here, would you hold my purse a moment? I need to get out my cigarettes.

Eunice Kennedy Shriver

Very inspiring eulogy by Maria Shriver for her mother, Eunice Kennedy Shriver. What an amazing woman she was. I think it is fair to say that she was "a true original." Listening to this makes me want to get out there and make a difference. I felt the same way when President Obama was sworn in, and for awhile I did volunteer with underprivileged teens. I think it's time for me to look around for something else I can do in my community.
